Audified continues to develop its series of bass amp simulators with the GK Amplification 3 LE. This plugin models classic Gallien-Krueger amps and provides solid bass tones that can transform a flat-sounding signal.
GK Amplification 3 LE is simple to use and functional, but the plugin has its limitations. However, it is a great entry point for bass amp simulators.
This amp simulator models three amps: Gallien-Krueger’s MB 150 Combo 112, NEO 412, and the RBH 410. Each of these amps can be modified to hear either its full range, subwoofer, tweeter, or a combination of the two. The modeling has been done well, and each amp sounds full and unique if there is sometimes only a subtle difference.
There are 8 mics on offer for micing the amp – 4 dynamic microphones and 4 condenser models. Both the placement, angle and distance can be easily modified to help capture the sound you are looking for.
The plugin’s stereo function is perhaps the most interesting feature, giving you the possibility of having two radically different bass sounds on each side of the mix. Not only can you modify the mic and placement for each side, but you can also even have different amps, creating some very unique sounds ready for experimentation.
The GK Amplification 3 LE incorporates compression and EQ effects. The EQ is very responsive with parametric mid bands to better edit hi-mids and low-mids. The plugin also has the capacity to boost the signal, as well as reduce the signal by 14 dB on the input.
Audified has also included a smart gate into this plugin with AI ‘learning’ capabilities. The gate function is fairly difficult to time with the drum kit. However, it does work well as a means to clear up noisy signals. This ability will also save you time in the editing room.
This is a fine plugin that has the ability to generate some nice bass tones, from jazzier, smooth bass sounds to something a little rockier.
Overall, GK Amplification 3 LE is a capable guitar amp and does its job well, but it is not the kind of plugin that will inspire new directions for your music. It’s laid out clearly, and it won’t take you long to understand how it works.
